White Wines Under $15
White Cliff Sauvignon Blanc, Ruffino Lumina Pinot Grigio, Henry of Pelham Chardonnay
I love wine, but by no means am I an expert or a snob. If it tastes good, it’s a winner. I don’t get caught up in terroir, vintage or scores. It’s a matter of taste: my personal taste. But it’s also key when I have friends over, I have an assortment to appeal to a variety of tastes.
This post puts a spotlight on three white wines under $15. They are so likeable and delicious: no-brainers to have on hand for nights-in with friends.
I’ll start with the Sauvignon Blanc. Do you find white wine lovers are either in the Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc camp? Well, anyone who knows me knows I’m #TeamSauvBlanc. White Cliff (New Zealand), was recently referred to me by a number of Shop & Tell fans, and it’s my new favourite. It’s light, crisp, dry and delicious. And Shop & Tell deal of the day: it’s on sale now in Ontario at the LCBO for $12.45 (regular $14.95). Run, don’t walk, to get a bottle (or case!).
Next up: Pinot Grigio. Pinot Grigio is the perfect white wine to have on hand because it doesn’t seem as polarizing as Sauv Blanc and Chardonnay, right? It’s like the Switzerland of white wines: neutral territory. And Ruffino Lumina (Italy, $13.95 at LCBO) is my go-to for Pinot Grigio – it’s light, crisp and dry.
I voiced my allegiance to Sauv Blanc earlier in the post, and generally, I’m not a Chardonnay enthusiast. But a Shop & Tell fan recommended Henry of Pelham Chardonnay (VQA Ontario, $14.95 at LCBO). It caught me by surprise, and I really enjoyed it. It’s fresh and dry – and bonus points for Canadian content. I have a lot of friends who love Chardonnay, and they will be treated to this little gem going forward.
I want to hear from you: what are your thoughts on today’s Shop & Tell white wine picks? Have any others to share? Cheers!
